This is a funny one for me. It started out with the quick thought, "I made a great sign for Hawaii, I should make a great sign for Tahoe!" So I looked around and found this cool South Lake Tahoe sign and started painting it. But the picture I referenced was closely cropped, so I decided I needed to check out more pictures with larger context. Did I mention that I had already painted the sign portion and was really just looking for the background feel? Oh, and did I also mention that I had submitted my purchase order to the gallery with the painting on the order listed as "Chickadee with Tahoe sign"?.... When I researched a little more, I found that the sign is actually huge! I was thinking it would be about the size of a small store sign or welcome mat, maybe? But no, the "O" in "TAHOE" is actually larger than an adult man's head. I had planned to place a big fat chickadee square on the left side of the sign, tilting over and looking all cute. He would've been a Godzilla Chickadee! So I measured it out a bit and made my chickadee just a wee but larger than reality. I think he came out just right after all!
