I started this painting a few months ago and just kept looking at it and having a hard time visualizing how it would look in the end. Finally, I just dove in and ta dah! My favorite part of this painting is my female cardinal snuggling up to her man. She looks so fluffy and content. Love her! Their two babies don't really care for the PDA, they'd rather have mealtime. Snuggle time is over, back to work mama and papa!

I started this painting with the full intent of having a red tree in it. That's all I really cared about when I started drawing this one out. Then I added in the color design for the old Hawaiian plantation style house and our weather-worn surfboards on the side. I love how relaxing "Relaxing" came out:) I just want to cradle myself on into that hammock and take a breezy afternoon nap with the sound of waves rocking my cares away.
Japanese White Eyes get their name from the white ring surrounding their eyes. These rings make them look perpetually interested in any goings on, which makes them super adorable as well. We have been having some amazing sunsets lately and these two are enjoying a sunset snuggle. Life is good when you can spend quality time with the one you love! I love me some shave ice! Apparently little yellow birds love it as well. The two sitting atop this colorful shack are waiting for the tuxedo kitty to fully fall asleep before attempting to play out their cool down caper. In the meantime, they can decide on which flavors to savor. Any combination will be a good one for this hot afternoon, whew! The title came from "Wonderful Tonight" by Eric Clapton:)
I envisioned these two Java Sparrows kissing as the sun sets in the distance. They are preparing to nestle in for the night, but first a little snuggling amongst the sweet perfume of Hawaiian plumerias. It's good to be in Hawaii! This is the ultimate resting place on the beach. Shade from the palms, a place to rest your boards and the perfect hammock to stretch out and take an afternoon snooze. Today looks like it's more of a calm, light and breezy day than an epic waves day, so my little yellow birds are more interested in the hammock. It's a good day to be a beach bum!
Rosebud, she just looks like a Rosebud! This is a little 'Apapane birdette. The 'Apapane is an indigenous bird of Hawaii. They are easy to spot in the forested areas due in part to their brilliant red/black/white plumage and also from their beautiful array of songs. Our little friend here just stopped by to say hello. And then she will be off to new and exciting adventures!
You wouldn't know it by the brilliant color being flashed around, but the Red-Billed Leiothrix is a very private bird. They like to hideaway for the most part, but you wouldn't know it looking at these two. My Leithrix pair are hanging out on the local bougainvillea vine. It's almost like they knew you were coming here and wanted to celebrate your arrival. What a nice surprise:) Welcome to Hawaii!
Pueos are adorable short-eared owls of Hawaii. They are smaller in size and nest on the ground, but they will perch in the trees overhead when scoping out for dinner. Pueos have evolved wings with "tattered" feathers that allow them to fly silently through the air. The tattered edges don't fight the force of air as they stealthily soar, making them little ninja hunters. These two Pueos are cherishing a snuggle in a beautiful Jacaranda tree known for its brilliant purple flowers. It looks like sunset time. A perfect time to relax and enjoy some sweet love!
Kisses are the best! These two Creepers are starting their new life together with a kiss on a branch of fragrant plumerias with the perfect view of Diamond Head. Its a beautiful calm day in Waikiki, no messy waves or clouds in the sky. Just a perfect light breeze and love in the air.
Its a good day to be in love! |
