The 'Akepa is one of my favorite birds in Hawaii. The males have bright orange plumage that gets brighter as they grow from juvenile to adult male. With the lush green backdrop of Hawaii's flora, the 'Akepa is easy to spot even though he is small in stature.
My little friend is here on a Pikake branch. Pikake is from the jasmine and has the intoxicatingly sweet and crisp perfume of tropical rain forests. I call this painting "Lucky Orange" because he just seems like a sign of a little good luck.how lucky we are to meet up today!
