I can't speak for every artist, but all my life I have felt the need to create artwork, like an itch in my brain that spreads to my body if I go too long without making something. Having an on-going need to create takes a lot of creativity, and sometimes I need multiple outlets to keep me motivated and on-track. I love painting birds, but I needed something more to paint, so I started painting my Lucky Live Hawaii shacks. Then I added dinosaurs. And now I'm adding a new series based on my long-time love affair with Art Nouveau, Art Deco and vintage travel posters.
The perfect place to start out these vintage-inspired poster paintings is Tahoe. Emerald Bay is an iconic destination of Lake Tahoe that includes the only island, Fannette Island, in all of Lake Tahoe. For the most part, Emerald Bay is not accessible by car, so lots of hiking, biking and fresh air is involved while experiencing this national park. You will also catch glimpses of all the Sierra wildlife. In my poster painting, I had to add a Black Bear mama and her cubs. Just like the other outdoor adventurers, this bear family is on a stroll, basking in the sun and reveling in the view.
