The song came first on this one. I love Aretha Franklin and I was listening to her music while working on the jaguar. When "Chain Of Fools" came on, I knew it must be painted! This is a 6"x12" painting. The Saffron Finch is a perfect bird to feature in "Chain Of Fools" because they are alwaying flitting about. Saffrons follow us on our walks: tap dancing on fences, threading the needle through branch gaps in trees and boldly playing in the middle of the street. The Saffron Finch is a highlight on our walk and they definitely stand out against the 6:30am halflight. So much fun! I might have to do a really large version...

By all accounts, it couldn't be less complex: a little, enchanting artistic creation, on a wooden board, portraying a goldfinch roosted on its taking care of box, seen against a whitewashed divider. There, at the base, the mark of the craftsman, "C Fabritius", is plainly apparent in dark paint, alongside the image's date: 1654.

For craftsmanship history specialists, this data makes the composition priceless, on the grounds that Carel Fabritius (1622-54) was a significant craftsman of the Dutch Golden Age. During the 1640s, he prepared in Rembrandt's studio in Amsterdam. At that point, in 1650, he moved to Delft – the old neighborhood of Johannes Vermeer – where he kicked the bucket, disastrously youthful, in a blast at a black powder stockroom near his home.
