This little guy is a Saffron Finch. We have these birdies all over Hawaii and they are really this bright in color. I love looking out the window and watching pairs of Saffron Finches hopping around under my tangerine tree and chirping it up in the trees. When our sprinklers go on in the morning, it's pool party time for these little guys. They'll dive bomb through the streams of water, shake it off and go again. I call this 5"x7" painting "No Worries" because he's got that laid-back look and just happens to be all Rasta colors. I had Bob Marley stuck in my head while painting him... Had a great day yesterday, my good friend Kris at Genesis Gallery Hawaii sold three miniature paintings to Brigette, so I have to get back to work! Original painting will be available at Genesis Gallery Hawaii. Contact information is on my website: www.ktoart.com/galleries /galleries.html

Okay, here goes! Starting a new blog and I will be painting some smalls (mostly 5"x7" - 8"x8") each day. Karen Obuhanych of ktoART- Ground Rules: one painting start to finish in a day, anything that strikes my fancy is fair game as far as subject matter is concerned. Most likely I'll be painting my favorite subject matter: birds! But I love all of God's creatures and even though my thumbs are far from green, I like painting the flowers and trees as well. Here's today's painting. I've already added it as the title photo for my ktoART blog page. This is a 5"x7" acrylic original painting I call "Stop And Smell The Flowers". The cute little birdies here are called Vermillion Flycatchers. The female has grey and white tones with a shock of peach on the belly. Males are more striking with their vermillion red color and black-brown mask, wings and tail. I grew up in California and there are so many birds to see over there. Every so often you can find these guys flitting around, trying to catch some grub:) Since the Vermillion Flycatchers are usually flying around catching flies, I figured that in my painting, I'd like for them to take a breather. Stop and smell the flowers! Original painting will be available at Genesis Gallery Hawaii. Contact information is on my website: www.ktoart.com/galleries /galleries.html
